Everything you wanted to know

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can request information by using our form, email, or by phone at 214-216-1024

How much do counseling sessions cost?

Although we have standard hourly fees, we are willing to work with individuals and families on a case-by-case basis to meet specific needs. We accept Aetna and Cigna insurance. Charges will begin occurring upon the first session.

How are cancellations handled?

We understand that life happens. Unless there is an emergency, we require 24-hour notification. If there is no emergency, no 24-hour notification, and/or a no-show, half of the agreed session fee will be charged.

How long is a session?

Individual and family counseling sessions are standardized at 50 minutes. Group sessions are typically 60-90 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

Each individual/family is unique and the number of sessions depends on a number of factors. In our initial sessions, we will build a treatment plan together and broadly assess your goals and needs. As we explore the deeper issues and better understand the situation, it is likely we will make adjustments. Our goal is to assist our client(s) in gaining a better understanding of themselves and their situations, then work together to address their needs and goals: including how may sessions will be required. One session at a time.

How frequently do I need to come into counseling?

Most clients choose weekly sessions, though we will work around what fits your schedule.

Does counseling work?

Broadly speaking, yes! However, the greatest determinant is the readiness and the willingness of the client to engage in the therapeutic process.

What happens during a counseling session?

A typical counseling session always includes checking in with the client, addressing immediate needs, and understanding what the client wants to address. Sometimes sessions have activities to help in the process, for example, mindfulness, breathing, puzzles, and play-acting.

What is your counseling approach?

We believe that each person is composed of an intertwined combination of mental, physical, and spiritual dimensions. Our approach is to address our clients as whole persons, as we strongly believe each person is greater than the sum of their parts.

What is the counseling process?

The counseling process generally progresses through three major stages.

  1. Initial stage: Working together to understand what brought you to counseling and to build a therapeutic alliance. Understanding situations, background, contexts, and other people involved. What brings you here?
  2. Working stage: Setting reasonable and manageable goals and how to actively work on them. What does healthy look like for you/family?
  3. Termination stage: When you and the therapist feel you have achieved your goals and are ready to move forward. What does life look like after therapy?

Sometimes it may be necessary to revisit these stages as counseling unfolds.

Are our sessions confidential?

All sessions are kept confidential from any third party unless state or federal law dictates otherwise. Before counseling sessions ensue, each client will be informed of the limitations of confidentiality and how records are maintained.

Where is your office and at what times do you see people?

At this time, all our counseling sessions are online via HIPAA compliant tele-health means. The client will be required to have a capable device (smart phone, laptop or desktop) with a camera and microphone. Clients will be asked to find a quiet and private place to have sessions and to ensure only relevant parties are present. The therapist is not responsible for the client environment, security, or physical limitations of confidentiality.

Do you take insurance?

AMCS accepts Aetna and Cigna insurance.
